Frank Abagnale was known in the 1960's for successfully passing US$2.5 million worth of meticulously forged checks across 26 countries over the course of five years, starting when he was only 16 years old. A movie "Catch Me If You Can" (starring Leonardo DiCaprio ) was created based on the true events that comprised his life and time as a fake check crook.

From Forbes:
Frank Abagnale Jr. began his career as a con man at age 16. By the age of 22, Abagnale had successfully lived multiple lives as college professor, pediatrician, airline pilot and attorney. In his prolific career as a con artist, he cashed $2.5 million in fake checks across the 50 United States and throughout 26 foreign countries. After his eventual capture in 1969, Abagnale served five years in American, French and Swedish prisons. As a condition of his release, Abagnale worked with the FBI for almost four decades. His book, Catch Me If You Can, inspired the Steven Spielberg movie by that same title, released in 2002.
